Two people on a date

The Board works best when you know what to look for before you open a listing. You can browse every card in your city by kind, date and offer without signing in. Once you find something that fits, verify your account so the host knows you are real.

Browse the Board without signing in

Anyone can see the Board. You do not need an account to browse invitations, read titles, see the city and date, and check what the host is offering. The summary card shows you everything a host wants you to know before you click in.

That summary is all most hosts put in the title. They might write "Dinner with champagne, Friday in Fitzroy" or "Weekend at the beach, two nights, open to September". You can scroll through and spot what interests you without opening every listing to see if the dates or location work for you.

The Board shows invitations posted by verified members in your area. Narrow it down with four filters to find what you actually want instead of scrolling through dozens of listings that do not fit.

  • City. See invitations in your city only, or expand to nearby areas if your city is quiet. You set the radius.
  • Kind. Filter by the type of invitation: a one-off date, an experience like a trip or an event, or an ongoing arrangement. You can search each kind on its own.
  • Date. Set a date range. If you are flexible, leave it wide. A narrow range shows only what fits your calendar.
  • What they offer. Filter by what the host is offering: time together, gifts, experiences, support or a mix. This tells you what to expect from the arrangement.

Apply these filters and scroll through the results. Every card tells you the basics: the city, the date or date range, what kind of invitation it is, and what the host is offering. This saves time. Read the cards first. Open only the ones that fit what you are looking for. If nothing catches you on the cards, adjust the filters and scroll again.

Read the card before you open the listing

The card is the host's summary of what they want. Read it carefully. A host who writes clearly on the card usually writes clearly in the full listing too. A card with no details often means the full listing is thin as well.

Some hosts are flexible about dates: the card might say "September or October". Some are specific: "Saturday 5 October, one night". Flexible listings work well if the host's other terms match what you want, because you can suggest a date they can accept.

If the card says the host is open to dates you suggest, you can reply with a date and time that works for you.

If your city is quiet

Some cities have fewer invitations than others. If you scroll through and find little, widen your filters. Expand the city radius to see invitations in nearby suburbs or towns. Extend your date range. Open the "kind" filter and search each type separately so you do not miss what you are after.

A host in a quieter area might post an invitation that is more generic so it gets seen by people outside the immediate area. Read the full listing before you decide. You might find something that works even if the city is not where you thought you would look.

Verify before you apply

Verification is a live selfie compared to your profile photos. It takes a few minutes. A verified account tells a host that you are who you say you are, which is why it matters. A verified member can apply to any listing with a note. If your account is not verified yet, you cannot apply, though you can still message a host once your profile is complete.

Some hosts accept applications from unverified members, but most require verification before they will even look at your application. Get verified before you start scrolling seriously so you do not find a listing you love and then have to wait for approval before you can apply. It only takes a few minutes and it opens the Board to you.

Read the full listing and the host's profile

When you find a card that interests you, open the full listing. The host has had space to be more specific about what they want. Read it for tone as well as detail: a thoughtful listing often means a thoughtful host.

Visit the host's profile. You can search for people and see what they are looking for. The profile shows their photos, their expectations, and a summary of what kind of arrangement they want. A profile that matches yours means the listing is more likely to lead somewhere.

When you apply with a note, be specific. Name something from the listing that you liked. Say one thing about yourself that connects to what they want. Ask a question if there is something unclear. You are trying to show you read the listing and you are a real person, which is what every host wants to see.
