Draft for legal review

Privacy policy

Your details, kept close.

We collect what a dating profile needs, plus a verification selfie we delete 30 days after the decision. You choose who sees your photos, and you can see, correct or delete everything we hold.

Written under the Australian Privacy Principles. Draft of 30 September 2026. General information, not advice.

Who we are

Dateable is a dating site for adults who state their expectations at the start. "We" means the operator of dateable.dev. The operator's legal name, ABN and postal address: to be announced before launch.

We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Photos of you count as personal information when your identity is clear or could reasonably be worked out.1

Every member is 18 or over. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we remove it.

What we collect

When you sign in

  • Your member key from Omxus, our sign-in provider. It is unique to Dateable. Your password or passkey stays with Omxus; we never see it.
  • Your Omxus address, which comes with the sign-in.
  • A session cookie that keeps you signed in for 30 days.
  • Your email address, if you add one in Settings for notifications.

Your profile

  • Display name, date of birth, city, your side (generous or attractive) and who you are looking for.
  • Headline, about, and "what I offer" or "what I am looking for".
  • Height, body type, hair, eyes, smoking, drinking, education, occupation and interests.
  • Income and net worth bands, if you are on the generous side and choose to add them. Both are optional.

Who you are looking for can reveal your sexual orientation. We use it only to show you members and show you to members, and only because you chose to add it.

Your photos

Up to 12 public and 12 private photos. We strip location and camera data (EXIF) from every photo on upload.

What you do on Dateable

  • Messages and conversations.
  • Favourites, profile views, blocks and private album grants.
  • Board invitations you post, applications you make, and the private ratings you give after a date.
  • Reports you make, and reports made about you.
  • How you reply and your photo quality: reply rate, reply length and photo ratings, which set where you sit in search.
  • What you send through the contact and report forms.

Why we collect it

  • To run the service: show your profile, match searches, deliver messages, run the Board.
  • To keep members safe: verify that people match their photos, review photos and invitations, act on reports, enforce blocks.
  • To enforce the age limit: your date of birth confirms you are 18 or over. Your profile shows your age, never the date.
  • To order search: rate members on reply rate, reply length and photo quality.
  • To talk to you: notifications you switch on, and replies to what you send us.

We never sell your personal information. We never use your photos, messages or selfie to advertise Dateable.

Verification selfies

To verify, you take a live selfie holding a pose the app picks at random. A person on our team compares it with your profile photos and approves or declines it. A person decides, not software, and we build no face template from it.

We keep three things: the selfie, the decision and the date. The selfie is deleted 30 days after the decision. The decision and date stay with your account, so your badge can show the month you verified. When you change your first photo, you verify again and the same rules apply.

The check confirms you match your photos. It is not an identity or age document check. If we add one, this policy will say which provider runs it and what they keep. How verification works.

Who sees what

  • Other members: your profile, your age, your public photos, and the Verified badge with its month. Never your date of birth, your email or your selfie.
  • Members you grant: your private album, until you revoke it.
  • A member you block: nothing. You disappear from their search, the Board and their messages.
  • A Board host: your application note and profile. The venue on an invitation shows only to the accepted guest.
  • Our reviewers: photos, selfies, invitations and reports, to moderate them.
  • Nobody sees private ratings. They feed trust and moderation only.

We disclose information to police or a court only when the law requires it, or when we believe someone is at serious risk of harm.

Who processes it

  • Cloudflare hosts the site, the database and your photos. Photos sit in a private store and open only through checked, signed links.
  • Omxus handles sign-in.
  • Our mail service sends notifications and replies, through Proton.
  • Google Analytics counts visits to public pages, without cookies. It sees the page address, never your profile, messages or photos, and never runs inside the members app. It skips you if your browser sends Do Not Track.
  • Google Fonts serves the site's typefaces for now, so Google sees your IP address when a page loads. We plan to serve the fonts ourselves before launch.
  • Payments: none. Dateable is currently free. If we ever add a paid feature, we tell members before it starts and name the payment provider here. We never hold card details.

Some of these providers may store or process information outside Australia. Which countries: to be announced.

How long we keep it

  • Verification selfie: 30 days after the decision.
  • Paused account: kept in full, hidden from everyone, until you return or delete it.
  • Deleted account: profile, photos, messages and applications deleted within 30 days.
  • Removed account: deleted after a retention period, to be announced.
  • Audit record: a scrambled (hashed) copy of your member key and the reason for the deletion or removal. Nothing else.
  • Safety reports: period to be announced.

Security

Photos stay in a private store and every link to one is checked against who is asking. Your session cookie cannot be read by scripts. Every request to our servers checks your session, your account state and your blocks before anything else.

No system is perfect. If a breach puts you at risk of serious harm, we tell you and we tell the regulator.

Access and correction

You can see and edit most of what we hold in your profile and Settings. For a full copy of your information, or to correct something you cannot edit, write to us through the contact page and choose "Account". We confirm it is you through your signed-in account, then reply within 30 days. There is no charge.

If we refuse part of a request, we say which part and why.

Deletion

Settings, then Delete. We delete your profile, photos, messages and Board applications within 30 days. Messages you sent to others go with your account.

Want a break instead? Pause in Settings. Nobody sees you while paused, and everything stays for when you come back.

Complaints

Tell us first, through the contact page. We reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.1

Someone shared an intimate image of you without consent? Report it to us, and to eSafety, which can help have it removed.2

Changes

When this policy changes, we update the date at the top. A change to what we collect or who sees it, we tell you in the app before it applies.

Your control

Seen by the people you choose

Private albums open one member at a time, and close again with one press. Block someone and you vanish from their search, the Board and their messages. Pause and nobody sees you at all.
