Generous or attractive member: which side to join as

Join as the generous member if you offer time and support. Join as the attractive member if you want to receive that generosity.

Two people on a date

Join as the generous member if you want to offer time, experiences, mentoring or support. Join as the attractive member if you want to be courted and receive that generosity. The choice is about role, not gender or age: men can be sugar babies, women can be sugar mommies, and anyone can be either side.

This is about role, not identity

Sugar dating has roles and expectations, but the roles do not match gender or age. A woman in her fifties can join as an attractive member and choose to be courted. A man in his twenties can join as a generous member and offer support. The side you choose reflects what you want to do, not who you are.

When you join, you choose a side, and it shows on your profile. Pick the side that fits what you actually want to offer or receive, not the one you think should fit you.

The generous member offers time, support and experiences

The generous member is the one who provides. That can look like an allowance, gifts, mentoring, time away, or experience: a trip, tickets to an event, introductions to people in your world, or help with a goal. What matters is that the generous member is the one deciding what to give and when, and the attractive member decides whether to accept it.

On Dateable, joining is free on both sides, and so is every feature. Generous members message free once their profile is complete. Once verified, they can post an invitation on the Board and accept an applicant. The guide for generous members covers the rest.

Being a generous member suits you if you have the time, resources and interest to give those things. You might be established in your career, or you might just have a flexible schedule and enough money to cover dates and gifts. You might be looking for companionship, someone to show around your city, or someone to mentor toward a goal.

The attractive member receives generosity

The attractive member is the one who is courted. The generous member pursues, proposes, and offers. The attractive member chooses who to talk to, decides whether the offer suits them, and can say no or ask for something different.

The attractive side is free on Dateable, like the generous side. Anyone can browse Board invitations. Attractive members message free once their profile is complete; once verified, they can apply for an invitation or post their own. When a generous member messages them, they choose whether to reply. The guide for attractive members covers the rest.

Being an attractive member suits you if you want to be sought out and supported. You might be a student with tight finances, or someone building a business who values support more than a salary would offer. You might want to travel but cannot fund it alone, or want to be mentored by someone further ahead in your field. The generous member covers the cost and usually suggests the plan.

Describe your side to a friend in one sentence

The clearest test is this: can you describe what you want to do in one sentence without feeling like you are stretching the truth?

  • Generous: "I want to support someone I enjoy and take them on nice dates."
  • Attractive: "I want someone to court me and help with financial support."
  • Generous: "I am looking for someone to mentor and help build confidence."
  • Attractive: "I am looking for support while I finish my degree."

If you can say your sentence and mean it, you have picked the right side. If you are hedging, apologising, or adding "but also", the sentence is not honest. Most people who struggle to choose have not yet decided what they actually want, and that is fine. Sit with it. Clarity usually comes from thinking about what you would actually do, not what you think you should want.

Money is part of the picture, but it is not the whole picture

Money is often part of the generous side, but not always the biggest part. Attention, mentoring and a well-planned evening count too.

Some generous members are younger and budget carefully. Some attractive members earn well and are looking for something else: companionship, a date with someone who knows how to plan, someone from outside their usual circle. Generosity is not always about income. It is about what you can offer and what you choose to give.

You can change your side once

Dateable lets you change your side once after joining. That covers a genuine mistake or a real change in your life, not a habit of switching, so take the one-sentence test seriously before you pick. See membership for what each side includes.

Start by knowing what you are offering

Once you have picked a side, write your profile as if the other person can see exactly what you bring to the table. For generous members, that means being clear about what you want to give and the kind of company you hope to find. For attractive members, that means being clear about what you want, what you are comfortable with, and who you are beneath the dates.

I have a stable career and time for someone I enjoy. I am looking for chemistry and someone who values genuine connection over games.

A profile like that, honest and straightforward, draws people who are looking for what you actually have to offer.
