Should you send photos by text or WhatsApp?
Keep photos inside Dateable until you have met and trust the person: the app lets you revoke access, but text and WhatsApp photos cannot be taken back.

Keep photos inside Dateable until you have met and trust the person. Photos sent by text or WhatsApp cannot be taken back, but your private album on Dateable can be revoked from one person while you keep it open to others.
Photos on Dateable stay in your control
Your private album works like this: you grant or revoke album access to each person. If you trust someone, you let them see your private photos. If the match changes or you stop trusting them, one tap removes their access and they can no longer see those photos on the app. This matters because it gives you power: you can show photos to someone while you are talking to them, and take that access away if the conversation turns wrong.
Every photo you send on Dateable is reviewed before others see it. That review happens only once. If you move to WhatsApp or text, every photo you send there is unreviewed and uncontrolled: the person has it forever, and so does anyone they send it to. WhatsApp and text are also not encrypted end-to-end by default on all devices, and you cannot control who sees the photo after you send it.
Asking to move to WhatsApp is a scam warning sign
Pressure to move your chat to WhatsApp early on is a pattern scammers follow. Pressure to move to private messaging such as WhatsApp is a warning sign 1. This does not mean anyone who suggests WhatsApp is a scammer, but it is a red flag when the push comes before you have met or when they are evasive about why.
Why do scammers push for WhatsApp? Because on the app, the platform can report their profile if you do, and they can be caught or banned. On WhatsApp, they are just a phone number you can delete. They also want you off the platform's message history so there is no record of their story changing, their red flags mounting, or how they moved from flirting to requests for money.
When a real match asks to move to WhatsApp, they usually do it after you have been chatting for a while and both feel ready. They want to stay in touch before meeting or continue after. A scammer pushes for it immediately, as if being on Dateable is limiting them somehow. A real match can wait to move to WhatsApp. They are there to get to know you, not to hide.
Sending by text reveals your number
If you send a photo by text, the person has your phone number attached to you. If you send by WhatsApp, they have your phone number attached to you. Both reveal something Dateable does not: your direct contact details before you have met. On Dateable, you can message someone without sharing your phone number. They can block you or report you, but they cannot contact you outside the app unless you choose to give them your number.
Keep your number private until you trust the person. Once they have it, you cannot unsend it. If the match turns out to be someone you do not want to hear from, they can still call or text you. If it turns out they have copied your number for another reason, you have no way to undo that. Wait until you have met and decided you want this person in your life.
Photos from your camera roll can carry location data
If you send a photo from your camera roll by text or WhatsApp, that photo may carry metadata: the time it was taken, the camera settings, and sometimes the exact location where you took it. This is called EXIF data. If you took the photo near your home or your workplace, that metadata can pinpoint where you live or work without you saying a word.
Dateable strips this data when you upload a photo to your profile or album. WhatsApp and text can carry it. Some versions of WhatsApp remove location data, but not all, and it depends on your settings. Text messages preserve everything. Before you meet someone in person, do not send them photos that might show where you live or where you spend your time. A match who respects you will not ask for it.
A match who wants to see you can do a video call
If a match says they need more photos to decide whether to meet you, the real move is a video call. A video call confirms they match their profile, confirms they are real, and costs you nothing.
I'd love to send more photos, but I prefer a quick video call first so we can get a real sense of each other before we meet.
That one line does two things: it sets a boundary and it screens out people who want photos but no meeting. Video chat lets you check they match who they claim to be 2.
When to move off the app
Move your chat to WhatsApp after you have met and decided you want to keep seeing this person. By then you have met them in person, you know they are real, and you can trust your own judgment about them.
Once you are meeting in person, the rules change. You know who they are. Photos outside the app are safer because you have verified them. But before that point, keep everything on Dateable where you have control.
Use private photos to show only the people you choose. If something feels wrong, know how to spot a scam and protect your privacy from the start.
