Why moving a Board chat to WhatsApp early is a mistake
Moving to WhatsApp or email right after meeting on Dateable's Board puts you at risk. Stay on the platform until you have met in person.

Moving your Board conversation to WhatsApp or email after someone accepts your listing is a sign something is wrong. Scammers push you off Dateable to avoid the platform's records and protections; legitimate members have no reason to rush the move before you have met.
Why scammers push you off the platform
Once you move to WhatsApp or email, the conversation is yours alone to manage. Dateable cannot see it. If something goes wrong: money requests, explicit pressure, threats. You have no record linked to the person's profile, and the platform cannot help you prove what happened.
Scammers move fast to private apps because it isolates you. They can claim later that they never said what they said, and there is no Dateable record to dispute it. They can also delete the chat and disappear once they have what they want. This is why they push so hard for the move.
What you lose when you move too early
- A record: everything you said and they said stays on Dateable if you need it later.
- Verification: you know they are the verified member you matched with; off-platform, they could be anyone.
- Report access: if they ask for money, pressure you for photos, or turn hostile, one tap reports them to Dateable.
- Platform safety: Dateable's team can see a pattern of requests from one account and block predatory behaviour; your private chat cannot.
Pressure to move to WhatsApp or email before you have met is itself a warning sign 1. Scammers use it to isolate you and hide their tracks.
Why Dateable listings do not carry phone numbers
You may have noticed that a Board listing does not show a phone number, home address or social media handle. Dateable keeps these private on purpose. After you accept someone's application and they accept yours, you message on the platform. This protects both of you until you have decided to meet.
A member who respects this flow will stay in Dateable until you have chosen a time and place to meet in person. They know you will have their number and all their contact details once you are both ready. Pushing for it before then is a sign they do not respect the platform's design.
The scammer's pattern
A common pattern: someone accepts your Board invitation, messages once or twice on Dateable, then asks you to continue on WhatsApp or email. They may say "I do not check the app often" or "It is easier for me there". Once you move, they start with small talk. They seem interested, engaged, attentive. Then they shift to personal questions. Then requests 2.
The requests might be: lending money for an emergency, a gift card for a "system fee", photos to "verify you are real", your bank details to send a deposit first. There might be a story about being stuck overseas or needing help with a business problem. None of these are legitimate reasons to move off Dateable. All of them are easier to deny and harder to report once you are private.
The pattern works because once you are in private messages, you feel isolated from the platform and its protections. You might think "I have already shared so much, maybe it is okay to send this one thing". But that thinking is exactly what scammers rely on. They move you off Dateable to make you feel cut off from safety.
What to do instead
Stay on Dateable until you have met the person in public and decided you trust them. That may be after one coffee, or after a few dates. You decide. There is no rush. The whole point of the Board is that you can vet each other on Dateable before you ever exchange personal contact details.
I prefer to keep chatting here until we meet. It keeps everything clear for both of us.
If they push back on staying on Dateable, that is information. People you want to meet do not mind waiting. They understand you are being careful. They have nothing to hide. Someone who gets annoyed or impatient about staying on the platform is showing you something about how they treat boundaries. That is useful to know.
Once you have met and you both want to keep going, you can exchange phone numbers on the date itself. Then you can move to WhatsApp or text if you want to. By then you know who they really are. You have seen them in person. You have talked to them face to face. You have a sense of whether they are trustworthy.
If they ask you to move before meeting
If someone you matched with on the Board asks you to move to WhatsApp or email before you have met, pause. Ask yourself why they need to. If they cannot give you a reason that makes sense, or if they keep pushing, report and block the profile. Dateable's team reviews every report.
